24 A Selfbuilder's note

3days off. Fixing something you can't touch while busy. I've installed waterproof outlet on the pillar of my wood deck where I usually spend during my carpenter job. Drilling a hole for protective tube. Peeling off sheathed cord. Connecting with outlet tap. Checking voltage. There! As a certified electric engineer, this kind of rearrangement of circuit connection is easy.

To make things easy around working space, I've fixed 2 pieces of goodies. One is chip saw base. Without this base, fragile plastic safety cover and saw itself hitting ground. Another is a simple tool box for cutting equipment such as chisel, hammer, hand saw, and ink pot.

Finally, reconciliation with registration data, I've requested estimation for pillars and beams. Before finalizing pillar length, I was shocked with the architect has changed my scheme on pillar sizing about 3inches longer. Called him up and asked why. He said about 3inch shorter will not be any problem for final evaluation of building my house. Oh, well. Then I don't have to worry about minor change. Probably less than 1% allowance tolerated.

On searching fixture textbook, Amazon provided me a good one. To find a good textbook for traditional fixture building technique in Japanese is literally impossible. It's just a cultural difference. Japanese only transfer technical knowledge through oral interpretation not by written text. So, if you want to learn the technique, you have to be an apprentice of a master builder. No other choice. However, in English, you can choose the best fit out from variety of books. I think good textbook contains how to make various jigs and many visual introduction of technical detail. I was lucky to have this one.
